Part 8 evaluation

looking back at the last 10 weeks was a series of roller coasters because from day one we had to make a lot of decision that led to many different ideas furthermore we have had through out the first two weeks of planning but once we had our idea we had high hope an expectorations because we was all very enthusiastic about the idea of this furthermore we have had to sit down and discuss many other ideas like sounds fonts sfx fx making sure that the title sequence is appropriate to the story board and our original idea. i feel that if we had extra time i could of made the sequence more smooth and effective but form the time period we had and the technology we had i am very impressed with the work furthermore i feel that with the group that i was in it was a very successful time because we was very familiar with each other and each others skills.

Part 7 evaluation

Our target audience was 15 -25 year old and I felt that our media title sequence did reach out to this age range because of the fact it was a horror and thriller and this was very effective. In our title sequence we had covered the areas that would be beneficial to our audience because the protagonists are all the same ages as the audience and the plot/story line is relate-able because they are going to a party furthermore with them being teens they are able to exploit new and frowned upon situations because we are conforming to the stereotypes which appeals to the audience.

we asked our colleges and they gave back some really good and beneficial feedback because this gave us a foundation to work on plus with that feed back we had common questions like what is that man doing? what has he got to do with the story? these helped us because is will entice the audience to carry on watching the film and this would be very good for our film.

Part 6 evaluation

the task that we was set was making a title sequence for a chosen genre of our choice i have decided to go with jeevan and billy and between us we have a lot of technical skills that could provide as an asset because with these skill we was able to split of and work in our areas that we have the most knowledge of once we had split up we chose to regularly meet and discus the progress.

the technology that we had one issues with to start with was the camera because it was quite a technical piece of equipment we had to ask for assistance because we had to make sure once we went out to film we didn't have any queries that would make us unable to film. with the camera i found that once i had a grasp of it it was a very easy piece of equipment to understand and use and because of this i was able to utilise the different settings and use them to my advantage as a group when we decided to use the DSLR we could then focus on the shots and the effect that we could do to the shots.

another technology we had to over come and learn was final cut pro because i have used his before but because it was only a brief moment but when we sat down and discovered all of the hidden setting and the effect they had to offer i had a very easy time establishing the different styles that we could have it in furthermore once i had shown my group the differences from the rough to the final piece i got advice on where they would like to see different ideas or where an area could be improved but overall i found the technology at our disposal a struggle but it was very beneficial.

Part 5 evaluation

the audience that we have chose is band E -D teenagers and employed because they will be the band of people that would be looking for adventure and from this they would be the primary audience and the specific age group that we chose would be 15-18 year old as our primary audience because they have the most disposable income because they wouldn't have any need to spend and save vast amounts of money so they could then be able to waste their money furthermore with this age range they don't have any commitments so they can have a very easy and casual life style and this is beneficial because they would have a very happy life style. the secondary age range would be 19-25 and this is because they would have a very stable job with a regular income and they would have the income that they could dispose of if they wanted to go to the cinema and because of this they would be ideal as our audience.

Part 4 evaluation

For my product it conforms to the codes and conventions because the way that our sequence was filmed it had to conforms to the codes and conventions of the horror genre because if we didn't cover most of the conventions we would not successfully make it properly and it would not be effective.

in the sequence we have a series of different shots like close ups of the mysterious man hand to keep his cover hidden and to see what he is doing this creates suspicion and constant enigma because of his actions are confusing because throughout the sequence you re asking questions like why is he doing that? why does he have those pictures? with this the sequence was entirely inspired with the sequences by "se7en" and "the conjuring" and because they had a very successful film through its effects and the plot lines.

Codes & Conventions of Horror (Camera Angles)Extreme close ups (emphasise the subject) Tilt (to create disorientation) Establishing shots (showing location, stereotypically isolated buildings e.g. mansions or forests) Handheld (looks realistic, making it feel more believable,) Long shots (help show the danger or what the lead character is surrounded by, usually isolated) Tracking (where the camera moves at the side, following a character) Dollying (where the camera follows the character from in front or behind, to make it feel as if the character is being followed/stalked)Point of view shot (so the audience can see what the character sees, to feel as if we are looking through their eyes) Atmosphere is usually sinister and location often appears dark and isolated. Often do not always use well known star actors or actresses as the audience feel more uncomfortable with actors they don’t recognise as it makes them feel less secure Montage editing and quick shots in the trailer to increase tension and suspense.

these codes and conventions are very significant to our title sequence because with these codes and conventions we was able to pin point and adjust our title sequence to suit and make sure that they conform with all of these in addition to this with our sequence the group made sure that it was covering all of the bases. in the sequence we have chose very eerie and disturbing music that was made by Billy furthermore the titles themselves had to be suitable and these were chosen by and made by jeevan .

we have not used any actors that we have known because this gave us a chance to explore more actors and other actresses that specialise in the field in horror and we decided to use walk in auditions because this would of cost less.

part 3 evaluation

The production company that we would use is New line cinema because they are a very good supporter of the genre horror and furthermore they know how to distribute a film in such a way that results in massive comeback in funds furthermore we decided to use a budget of £20 million because this is a reasonable amount for a horror because you don't need a lot because there is not much special effect or expensive computer generated images  and because it had such a good result in america and the UK we hope that the same result should return. the success of the film "se7en" and "The conjuring"
was phenomenal because " the conjuring" had a $ 20 million budget and made over $318 million as a total gross for a film and the grossing for the film "se7en " was very similar we believe that the UK and the american audience love a low budget horror that will make a scare so we decided to focus all of our distribution over to them countries.

part 2 evauation

for our title sequence the waking hour we have chose the perfect target audience to be we decided to chose a audience between 15-30 and a annual income of £21-35000 a year because they would be the perfect age for having the income and the need to go out and because of the ages they will like to see horrors because it will give them a adrenaline rush that they crave. we decided to have it directed under a previous and famous director that done the conjuring James wan because his work on his conjuring and he second film has shown interest in the film industry but the actor to all be inters because this will sae money but we decided to have Patrick Wilson because he is know for doing other horrors and psycho thrillers so he will be out main cast member.

for our resarch before we started the production of the film we looking in to other films in the same genre and two films that caught the groups eyes was ''se7en'' and "the conjuring" and the reason we like these was the fact of the mysterious writing and behaviours that have been used to effect the audicens and cause confusion and the same with the conjuring because of the simplicity of it but the affectivness was highly noticble we based our marketing on these films and becaue of the fact that they are a sucess of their way of marketing we would use the same techniques of this like tv market campaigns and advertisement around the country, from the research we had made we decided to specify where would relase the film to maximise the target audience response and the maximum income.

part 1 evaluation

our brief for this project was to create a title sequence for film of our own personal choice we was given the opportunity to either work on own and do the title media sequence or work in groups and do it that way i decided to work in a group with me billy and jeevan. we was deciding for quite some time of an idea of what we should do for our title sequence but we decided to do a suspense thriller and we came to a unanimous decision so we stuck with this idea. we then sat down in emily's lesson and then through a few weeks of planning  how we would want this to be presented on film we decided to do a teen based horror because this would appeal would engage to this more that other age groups and this would fit to the age range that we was going for. billy mentioned the idea of boys going to a party but being side tracked by a haunted wooded area and jeevan added to say that they should have a stalker that only the audience sees and the actors are oblivious to. for the title of the sequence we decided to choose the name of the waking hour because this seemed a very strong and detailed title and this would engage the audience in to the title sequence more but what helped most with the name was the feed back that we had been given from the class that helped us decide between names. through out the title sequence you will start to think because you see a mysterious hooded figure writing in a book but we don't understand why. furthermore you see his myterious behavious planning out gettin the children.
the title sequence relates to the other films like se7en and the conjring because of the codes and conventions for a horror/thriller and these films was really good inspiration to us in because of the fact that they made you think at the begining who are the pictures and whats he writing what does it all mean it all creates a enigma that thy audience want to find out.

editing

Today was very eventful because I was able to sit down for 2 hours concentrating so I was able to do some solid work because this was the start of the editing I had to make sure that the files was not corrupt. once I imported them on to final cut pro on the Macs once they had been imported I could select all of the files and place them on the time line so I could crop cut and add adjust the files but because the length of the files was like 7 minutes. I had to spend a considerable amount of time going through all of the clips and choosing with the group what clips we would need then choosing where we would like them to go because we did not film everything in order so we had to re adjust the positioning of the film to where it was needed.

editing day 1

Today was a small start to the editing because as we sat down and delegated jobs to each other we decided that bill should do music because he has done many years in the subject me to do editing because  I have done a few years in media and I have picked up skills in editing in final cut and jeevan to do the titles because he had done an art subject before he had the creative mind to enable them to find and make the titles suit to the appropriate scene.

We was sat down and transferred all of the data on to the apple Mac and then converted them on to mpeg stream clip so that means that I can chose what file to save them to further more once I had transferred them on to the right file. once I had waited for all of the clips to transfer over I then saved them on to separate folders so that I had backups of the files so when I had finished that it took me a few hours because we started finding doubles of the files but once this had sorted out they were all separated and organised.

Day 5

This was another good day because of the time of the year we only had a small window to film in so we had to make every minuets count so when we went out today we chose to do any scenes that needed a specific lighting so then we can shoot at the appropriate times but today was only really for small re-shoot and a bother extras that we needed in addiction to this our group work very efficiently towards the end to make sure everything was covered.

When we had decided when to sort out the perfect positioning for the cast (our friends ) we then started having to go through all of the scenes that we found needed a slight tweaking so we then refilled it a few times we finally decided on the perfect shot for the scene. once we finished that we chose to go back to mine and then do the same with the beginning of the film and from this they made small tweaks to this to ensure that it was all good.

Friday 21 March 2014

Day 4

In the fourth day of filming we met up at the same time but today was a complete difference because of yesterday's problems we pushed through and we had a very successful day of filming I found that we were very success full because we was shooting for about 3-4 hours and we came away with some really good footage furthermore with the aid of our friends it made it more believable. From us meeting earlier we also covered the rest of the story board to make sure that it was all all right in addition we had to fit it around other peoples day which did sometime produce problems which cause a few setbacks but we covered everything that we was meant to.

Wednesday 19 February 2014

day 3

This is the third day of filming we went to oxleas woods and it was also a very poor day we has to do a lot of filming but we couldn't get it all done because of many different distractions because we decided to get the bulk of the work done so that we didn't have loads to do at the end we decided also to meet early so we had a bigger window to film in and this enabled us to then slowly go through it all and make sure that it is all the necessary shot and they are how we wanted them furthermore we had to make sure that everyone was able to film because we had t have external crew ad we made sure that they was al free for the days.

in the wood it was very muddy and wet so we had to compensate by redoing some shots so that they can be perfect for the scenarios that we had to shoot. so we decided to sit down that night and discuss what we needed to do for the fourth day because we was running out of time.

Tuesday 18 February 2014

day 2

When everything was prepared we shot the book because that is where the title of the film appears. then we got pictures of the boys who were going to the park and we then shot our next scene which was Billy was putting the photos in the book and then crossing their eyes and he put the photos on a board.
day two was a productive day because we had to use different effects of the camera to get the perfect shot. this day was a learning curve for me personally because with this I had to get a feel for the camera more and learn how extensively I can use and develop different images to create which could cause a more mysterious and gloomy effect.

we then focused mainly on the different aspects of the story board between 8-15 with this you could then the from this we could makes sure we have covered this area properly.

Monday 17 February 2014

the first day of filming

This is the first day of filming I feel that it has been a very successful day and we have achieved a lot of work we started round my house to do the close up and over the shoulder shots these allow them to a main priority because they had to be perfect because you are unable to see the killer so as you can tell it had to be re-shot a lot of times but it was a success. We took inspiration from the title sequence "se7en" because of its style of close shots where you can only see a small amount of the body and this puts the audience on a quest to watch the rest because you will never see who it is and it will constantly stay as a Macguffin. we had to spend a lot of time preparing the areas for the different stages of the first film and because of this it was a time consuming task but apart from this it helped us out having a whole week to film.

Blog post

In the last week I have made corrections to my posts and from this I have made a improvements placing labels on my work so that they can be easily found when people access my blog furthermore I have changed some of the dates of my work to make it more chronological so it's not more flowing.

feed back sheets

The feed back that we had received for our power points was very negative because we had not put enough detail in to the power point but this was a bad thing but also a good to hear it because this then gave us many ideas and the motivation to produce a more stable an concrete idea plus with the criticism that we got we have not got a very strong idea that both the teachers are very happy about and they both believe that it could be a success if it works and the editing and the hours go in to it.

The feed back was a very good point because the information influenced us to go into further research and make adjustments to our final idea because we had both positive and negative. Once me Jeevan and Billy sat down we was able to split back off in to our own individual groups and then make these adjustments so we can then go and add them to the final piece and once this had been done we had seen a much more impressive final piece.

discsssion of the group

Friday
In this lesson we was set the task to continue with any work we needed to do for our title sequence in my group we decided to carry on with the story boarding which is coming along well we have now got a new member from our friends to help with the filming and we have decided to start the filming in the week holiday.
After the lesson I went on to the macs and done changes that had to be done to my blog so that it was all correct and up to date.

Friday 31 January 2014

finding sounds and speech ideas

On Tuesday we was tasked to go in to the Mac room and complete and improve our blogs then when Miss Otti was ready she was calling us and discuss our blogs and how we could improve them.
We then had to have our film ideas heard by on voice record and we had to go through all of the details and make sure they are possible ideas and that we are not over ambitious furthermore we had to make sure that they are achievable under the budget of nothing and they are achievable under the amount of time that we have.

The following day

I was in the Mac room with jeevan and we was looking up possible special effect and music from London grid for learning and this produced a lot of possible tracks that we could use throughout the title sequence from this we had to chose from a wide variety but finally we chose to record speech and distort it using professional equipment in the music department.

enigma code

The enigma code was first invented by a man called barthes.
The enigma is primarialy designed to cause mysterious items and questions through out a horror and this is also like a cliff hanger and example of an enigma would be from the film title sequence se7en because you see what the man is drawing but this will raise questions like what is he drawing? what is he writing ? who is he?

With the enigma code it will create atomosphere and instantly draw the audience in with many questions so this will create suspence and enjoyment and this will make the audience want ot stay and watch the rest of the film so that you find out the answers.

Another example of an enigma is in the film law abiding citzen because you see a  man on the floor beatne up with his house broken in to with his wife and child murdered this will raise questions like whos the murderer? who are the people that gets beaten up? these questions are created by the enigma codes working together.

style
this is the opening part of the title sequence it has the production companies and the main character which is then followed by the title.
the first few picture you see a life form of some sort and from this you can tell that it is  alien life form because it is not the same as what a humans is. it is very close up and detailed to the species. the style of the title sequence has been made to look science fiction  and it has very dark and mysterious images which doesn't reveal much to the audience.

theme
the theme of this title sequence is showing the audience that it is a science fiction film because of the way that life forms are very different and they are not usual to the public straight away because the texture of the skin that you see show that it is not a normal object.
with the mysterious skin makes the audience think ask what is this ?

iconography
the iconography of the title sequence is very bold and obvious and it is white which is a contrast to the dark and space back ground this makes the words stands out to the audience and makes it easier for the audience to read.

narrative
the narrative of the film alien, so far from the title sequence you get the idea that it is set in space because of the space shit the eternal darkness and the planet of some kin in the back ground furthermore you see the stars in the back finally with the obscure skin in the beginning of the title sequence this adds to the mystery of what the creature could be.

characters
from this title sequence we know that there will be some characters traveling somewhere and will be a creature of some sort trying to kill them.

setting
this is set in space and possibly on the planet that is maybe deserted furthermore it will have a strong setting on the space ship or the space ship will have a strong resemblance for the film.

django analysis

This is the films production company

This is conventional for Quentin Tarantino film for his name to be one of the first show on the opening credits

In this title analysis i have chosen django because i feel this has quite a expansive title sequence because straight away you see the production company then you are in the film traveling through the sun kissed desert where there is no life for miles and you see the main character names whilst there slave are traveling.
The style of the font in in blood red which is a good foreshadow in some ways because throughout this film there are some gruesome and horrifying scenes so having the blood red is a significant colour.
This the title of the film we have django name in red which could mean that he has suffered and bled a lot because of the torture that you see he has suffered from his back and then the peaceful and holy colour of white which is used for the word unchained and the reason why it was holy because he was set free and saved like god was making sure he lived.

the way that the camera focuses on this man shows the audience that he is the main character for the film so this is a early recognition of the character django

here again the audence is show the expression of the character because of the pain that he has to go through whilst walking and the tiredness that you see in his face

The screen shot above has changed locations this has now put us in a wooded area and has show the producers name and the setting shows us that they are traveling at night first of all not just the dark lighting but the fact that the slaves are covered in robes and this could mean that the area is cold because of the drop in temperature furthermore when you see the slaves at night this shows the audience that they are constantly walking and are never let to rest and their lived are very miserable.

From this title sequence we see the main character names shown in a blood red which can show pain danger and the anger that will be shown from the Djangos point of view.
We also put straight in to the film showing us Django's very painful journey to where the film starts and this is quite a good way to start the film because of the similar way that the hulk film start because of the way it starts explaining the story to the audience to save time.

group analysis

The Conjuring.
This is the first scene from the title sequence as you see that it has a very grainy black and white this straight away confides to the codes and conventions for a horror first of all the family picture looks mysterious because of the way it has been taken plus  to add the show it has been edited to look like old film that is being played by a old film camera this shows that the film will have history.

In the last two screen shots they has been two family names this foreshadows the film later on plus this could mean that the family would be involved later on.

This is the start of the film it shows two characters these could be important to the film furthermore whilst in the back ground there is a projection showing the producers of the film.
This effect of the grain is giving the audience the allusion that it has a long and historical event and from this the audience will be intrigued to carry on watching to see who those families are.

These screen shots of the title sequence show that there has been news stories of ''ghostly activity and it has been in a museum'' these have been taken because these scenes might have been in the film and it could be important but they produce a macguffin

In these last screen shot you see pictures of the cast as their characters but for three of the characters its is placed in a grave yard this could foreshadow the deaths of people of the families graves that you see..
The images are very distressing to the audience because seeing death can make images or memories which can be uncomforting.

These scene can produce foreshadows for the future of the film it includes a wegie board a tree with a knot like someones going to hang them selves these are the most distressing because creating these situations can have bad repercussions which will lead to a poor future.
